Introduced in 1989, the Gradient Avanti was Gradient's first stand speaker. Industrial desig was made by Jukka Vaajakallio. The speaker received the "Good Design" mark from the Finnish Design Council, recognizing the product's high quality and excellent Finnish design. The speaker was available in black, white, and gray, with gray being the rarest color as black and white sold significantly more.
The two-way speaker's woofer was positioned above the tweeter, as high up on the speaker as possible, to reduce detrimental floor reflections. A horn adapter was crafted for the tweeter to minimize edge reflections caused by the speaker enclosure.
The Gradient Avanti speaker was sold in limited quantities with a custom-designed stand featuring three tubes. However, the more common option was the speaker stand manufactured by Target, which was more affordable.
