Gradient’s first product, the 1.0, was created from a desire to achieve good sound in an ordinary living room. The adverse effects of the room on sound reproduction were minimized through solutions that also gave the speaker its distinctive appearance. The first 1.0 loudspeakers were delivered to the newly completed premises of the Sibelius Academy. The model was introduced to the consumer market in the autumn of 1984. A fabric hood covering the upper section of the speaker was available as an accessory in black or white.
